Health Information ServicesThe New Ulm Medical Center Health Information Services Department performs several functions including: hospital and clinic coding, transcription, chart retrieval and maintenance, and release of patient information. Dozens of employees in this department work around the clock to maintain hundreds of patient charts and deliver them at crucial times throughout all departments of the clinic and hospital. Beginning in Fall 2005, the HIS department will undergo a significant transformation with the implementation of an automated medical record system. For staff and patients alike this new system will be beneficial in many ways, such as providing faster access to test results, more timely access to patient’s medical information, and built in safety features like a cross check of allergies with medications ordered. Our Release of Information (ROI) service can provide copies of a patient’s medical information either to the patient him/herself or another medical facility. There is generally a 30-day turnaround on an ROI request unless the information is needed for patient care. To complete an ROI request, please see our authorization form.
