Diabetes Education Basic Series Education

The Diabetes Basics Series covers everything you need to know about living with diabetes and keeping it under control. The following topics are covered in four sessions, which last approximately 2-3 hours:

  • Monitoring
  • Medications
  • Nutrition basics and introduction to carbohydrate counting
  • Setting goals to make changes
  • Physical Activity
  • High and low blood sugars
  • Carbohydrate countring
  • Foot care, dental care, sexual health
  • Heart disease risk reduction through nutrition, lifestyle changes and treatment
  • Stress management
  • Depression and diabetes
  • Care and monitoring to prevent complications
  • Assessing progress

Diabetes Basics takes place at the New Ulm Medical Center-Clinic Lower Level.


Meeting times

First Monday of the month starting at 6 p.m.

First Tuesday of the month starting at 8:30 a.m.

Because ongoing education is so important for managing diabetes, the cost of this class if often covered by health plans. Please check with your health plan to be sure.

You can pre-register by calling 507-233-1000. Or for more information, ask to speak with our Diabetes Educator or one of their staff members.

This program is accredited by the American Diabetes Association.
