Prenatal, newborn, children's programs at New Ulm Medical Center
Pre-registration is required for all the following classes. Call the New Ulm Medical Center's Birth Center at 507-233-1333 to register. All classes are free and held in the New Ulm Medical Center third floor auditorium unless otherwise noted.
Childbirth Education Class
Thursdays, August 21 through September 25, 2008 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Thursdays, October 9 through November 13, 2008 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
This class helps prepare expectant parents for the arrival of a new baby. Through the use of educational materials and videos, parents are given an opportunity to discuss their expectations regarding their new baby and childbirth. Parents are also given an opportunity to tour the Birth Center.
Childbirth Refresher Class
Tuesday, September 9, 2008 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Tuesday, November 4, 2008 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. (in the Clinic Lower Level Conference Room)
This one-night class is designed for those who have previously attended a childbirth class in the last three to five years.
Breast/Bottle Feeding Class
Thursday, September 18, 2008 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Thursday, November 6, 2008 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
This one-night class is for expectant mothers who have questions regarding breast and/or bottle feeding who are not already enrolled in the Childbirth Education Class. Topics covered include:
Benefits of breastfeeding
How to breastfeed
Breastfeeding and returning to work
Cleaning pumping equipment
Weaning your child
Baby and Me Class
Saturday, September 13, 2008 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Saturday, November 8, 2008 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
This class helps prepare 3 to 7 year old children for the arrival of a new sibling. Through the use of pictures and videos, children are given an opportunity to discuss their expectations regarding their new brother or sister. Children are given an opportunity to observe babies in the nursery and tour the Birth Center.
