Train to Work

Train to Work is a four-week paid training program designed to address the employment needs of economically disadvantaged adults while helping meet the staffing needs of Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Children's Hospital - Minneapolis and North Memorial Hospital.

For more about any program described on this page, contact Career Training Connections, 810 East Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis, MN  55404  Phone: 612-455-5303 Hours: Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Through job shadowing and soft skills training, participants prepare for long-term success in the workplace. After graduating from the program, participants are assisted with placement in jobs that pay $10 to $14 per hour, plus benefits.

Train to Work offers classes on an ongoing basis. On average, each course occurs every six months:

  1. Work readiness - This course offers three weeks of classroom soft skills training and one week of job shadowing within a hospital.
  2. Clerical - This course offers two weeks of soft skills and computer/office training, and two weeks of job shadowing in a hospital.
  3. CNA - This course is only available to those who are already certified nursing assistants (CNAs) on the Minnesota Registry. This course provides two weeks of soft skills training and two weeks of job shadowing at an area hospital. It designed to assist individuals in obtaining employment in a hospital setting.

Train to Work cannot accept individuals with theft, assault or drug charges on their record.


Health Careers Partnership

Health Careers Partnership is a collaborative project of Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Children's Hospitals and Clinics(Minneapolis), Hennepin County Medical Center, North Memorial Hospital, Minneapolis Community and Technical College, and Project for Pride in Living (PPL). Health Careers Partnership provides financial assistance to eligible incumbent employees at these partner hospitals who are interested in pursing a health care degree or certification at Minneapolis Community & Technical College.
